Default Adobe After Effects

I have just started using adobe after effects CS4 with several plugins Red Giant being the largest, I have created a few videos based off home movies i don't think i am going to be displaying them anytime soon online but i will be making a short film just for showing off.

Adobe AE is a bit in depth and i have just grasped the concept of use, i can now see how powerful it is as a tool for video production. It just like all the web stuff i know is almost 100% self taught and i will be coming up with some pretty good looking 3d stuff soon.

How much is this program and do you think it's worth it? I was looking for some form of movie editing software and I really need to consider price also. Can you compare it to other movie editing software? I'd appreciate it....
