Which do you prefer
Do you prefer pretty "basic and simple websites" or those with a lot of "bells and whistles." Sometimes simple is good. These websites can load quickly and be easy to view and read. On the otherhand, websites with fun graphics and animations can be eye appealing and catch people's attention.

I prefer basic. If I can't find the info I need, instantly, I leave. I don't care how good it looks.
(I miss the days of BBS-es and plain text)

I definitely prefer information to graphics. Graphics should be used only in extreme requirements. However some entertainment sites needs graphics and images and they are incomplete without entertaining graphics and images.
Overall the images should be used only when required mostly in entertainment sites. Information-based sites should not contain too many images and graphics content.

I don't mind images too much (graphical buttons, sreenshots, that kind of thing) its the flash animation / javascript rollovers / sound playing on a site that bothers me.
Also, if graphics are used in place of text (such as a picture of a pen and paper to symbolise 'compose' on a webmail site, then that *really* irritates me.
A picture is not worth a thousand words when it comes to navigation IMHO.
