Default Free, Paid or both

What forms of website promotion do you use? Do you spend money to advertise or try to use free methods? I spend a little money to advertise my business from time to time but I typcially use no cost methods more often.

I firt start off with a little free and a little paid advertising. The free part usually is the signature at many forums.

They really do help. I am looking to advertise my forum (MyIndya.Com) to another site serving the same purpose or close enough or who is getting the traffic that I am looking for. So I am ready to pay $$ for that. However, I wouldn't go with adwords and spend my money when most people click to help the website.

I tend to start out with more free advertising, like forum signatures, but I mainly go for directories. I have tried the whole paid thing, but it didn't perform very well. I never did the PPC, but I would guess that is better. I did the pay now and hope for results. I think the free advertising can definitely be just as good, if not better than the paid advertising.

I mostly use free advertising. I usually don't sell products through my web sites, so paying for visits would only be worth it if I could get more back from advertising.

I have used paid advertising for some of my clients and it has worked for them though.
