The Planet datacenter

I have heard that the Planet is one of, if not the best datacenter in the world.

Their prices are quite high, but I am prepared to pay that in return for reliability and high spec servers.

Has anyone had any experience using The Planet?

There are a few companies who use ThePlanet's facilities, alongside with using their support services to offer you top-quality dedicated server hosting as a reasonable price. I had a dedicated server from www.servermatrix.com which is one of the companies ran under ThePlanet.

As for my experience, I would have to give them an A+. All my support tickets and phone calls were answered promptly and professionally. Their network from what I've seen is top-notch. A friend of mine however did experience network issues there though, it was from a distributed denial of service attack. From what I remember, they got him and the other few servers that were effected back online in a timely manner for that type of situation.

Currently I have a server colocated at a data center in Indiana called ColoStore. Due to personal issues and my financial situation at the time I had to cancel my dedicated box, I just couldn't swing the $139/month.

I have heard nothing but good things about The Planet data center. But you are right about one thing you are going to pay. If its in your budget, then by all means go for it. But there are allot of quality data centers out there. As QBall15j stated www.colostore.com offers quality co-location for $49.99 per month. And also www.colo4dallas.com and www.steadfastnetworks.com offer quality co-location for a reasonable price. Stead Fast Networks being the most expensive.

Everything i have heard has been extremely positive, im thinking of getting a gameserver for battlefield 2 from them because the support official BF2 ranking and a TS server

Yeah, i suppose that have high prices because of there quality / high rate hardware they use. I may consider these for a Game Server also.

If you are going through someone who runs off theplanet, wouldn't it be cheaper just to go with theplanet themselves?

What are the advantages of going with someone that just uses theplanets facilities?

ThePlanet dedicated servers run from $250/month and up, ServerMatrix has servers starting at $120/month.

As for advantages, their network would be a start, with their Tier1 bandwidth providers and physical location thats a good sweet spot for both coasts.

Wow - They've got some really steep prices. I think it's vital though if you've got an online business that can't afford any down time.

It seems that their the Rolls Royce with every bell and whistle. I wish I could afford them.

You could start out with a $59 budget server and probably get away with hosting 50+ customers on it. And then you could move to a high end server when you get the budget. Moving accounts server to server in cPanel is pretty easy.

The Planet is actually quite low end. The hardware they use isn't at all top of the line, most of it is Dell stuff, and as we all know, Dell uses a lot of CRAP in their hardware. Network wise they're actually decently strong with the number of diverse providers, and size of the connections, along with the fact they do have some nice firewall setups. Though I've heard their firewalls as of this point are disabled for some reason.

If you want high end though, there's a lot better places that you could go; www.rackspace.com is one those, or http://www.prioritycolo.com is another good one to go with.
