Default buying new laptop, need help asap

I need to buy a laptop within the next week or so and I have a budget of around $1000. My budget pretty much puts macs out of the question so a pc laptop with have to do. Can anyone recommend a nice laptop with good battery life and a 15' or bigger screen. I was told I need a duo core processer and at least 2gig of ram. Are they any other things I should have in a laptop for graphic design? (I will be using photoshop, illustrator, indesign, no 3d rendering softwear.)

I don't have any recommendations, since I've never owned a laptop (only a desktop), but I will recommend looking online for coupons before settling on a deal. A friend of mine only buys laptops that way, with some sort of coupon or discount. Good luck.

^I have a friend who had Dell before, and I seem to remember her having trouble with it overheating easily, and wearing down after a few years. Is that why you prefer HP to it?

I'd had all brands. They are all hey pretty decent. Some things I've experienced. Sony Vaio's get real hot. Toshiba/Compaq battery life sort of sucks. Dell seems to be ok. IBM's are good but alot more expensive.

Personally, I haven't gotten a new one cause they all come with Vista which I hate. I'm probably going Mac in a few months.

My personal experience - I would recommend Acer.

If you are looking for style then Go for Sony Vaio W

I would recommend either Sony or Dell.

Dell used to be the top of the line, but it seems that their quality has gone downhill a little bit over the past few years.

Sony has had a lot of good reviews for their customer service.
