Default Give Stuff Away for Free

I think one great way to promote your new site is to give stuff away for free. I have handed out several shirts, stickers, eBook, and MP3s for free with my website on them. Most people do not want to watch or listen to any commercials or propaganda. However, if you make your advertisement into something they actually want, like a CD filled with music, they pay attention to the ad without even realizing it. Plus, they are more likely to use your site than if they seen a link and clicked on it.

The hard part is finding something to give away. For certain sites, physical items likes shirts, hats, CDs, and water bottles work well, but you have to ship them to people. If they are in another country, this isn't a very economical option. Digital goods, like MP3s, are great because it doesn't cost anything extra to get them delivered. Music download gift certificates and gift certificates in general are a good option. Other things I have given away were domain names and eBooks. You do need to find something that is closely related to your site or else you are just advertising to the wrong crowd.
