Default Best way of advertising?

What do you think is the best way of advertising your forum?

I personally feel that putting links in the forums you visit will surely help or sometimes using your sitename as your Username at a particular forum helps too...

What are the other methods that you know of?

I don't think there is necessarily a best way to advertise. what I mean is it can depend on the website or business you are promoting? What works well for one type of business may not for another.

I have a lot of success in forums just by being an active member, sometimes including my business information in my signature, etc.

I use competitions, signatures on other forums, and regular linking of my forum from content sites. My forum is quieter than I would like, but I don't want to force it, I'd rather gradually build up good content and take it from there.

you must have the 'pull factors' to make one come back and thus making it a popular site.

For a start, try freebies. Everyone love free stuff. so provide something free for every registered account, an exclusive distributable ebook maybe? or their own name@domain.com

The possibilities are endless!
