Default A design to match your visitors

When you design a site do you think ahead about the visitors that will probably come to your site and if so do you design with them in mind? Or do you just create a nice design that you like? I think for "marketing" purposes it's good to try to match the design in part to the tastes of your target market

I personally don't design; however, if I would I would just try to make a top notch design which would be liked by most of the people and suits the theme of the website!
