^I would opt for that if it were possible with my printer. I think my printer was made within the year though, and it doesn't allow for manual refills. The cartridge is completely sealed off, and if you try to puncture it, it ruins it -- I Google it many times to find that the manufacturer is adapting to make refills impossible.

Default Try chipped refill cartridges

I've just ordered another set of these for another new printer. They have an outer chipped cartridge that you add a replaceable ink tank and it resets to full. The refill ink tanks are around $3 each and hold 3X as much ink as the originals, and the empty ink tanks can be traded in at Staples for $3 credit each, so ink is almost free ($6 per order shipping). Might want to check it out.
