Google Page Rank
Google assigns a numeric weighting from 0-10 for each webpage on the Internet. A 0-5 Page Rank is considered mediocre and above 5 is great.

This is a very informative post.
This is a very informative post. Thanks for defining and explaining the concept of PageRank. The PageRank really shows how your website is performing on the web.

PageRank is a link analysis algorithm, named after Larry Page, used by the Google Internet search engine that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of "measuring" its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references. The numerical weight that it assigns to any given element E is also called the PageRank of E and denoted by PR( E).
Page rank allows you to know the popularity of the website or the web page. Thanks

I would only add that pagerank is only a Google's metrics method and it is not represent and established web standard. It is a guideline offered by a private company that people (including me) appreciate because of its quality web services and products.

I work with Bay Area Web Design and we're involved in SEO search engine optimization . While we are pretty successful at getting clients on first page search results for "keywords" in Yahoo and MSN (bing) and others.... but Google always seems a problem. All we can come up with is that Google places ALOT of emphasis on it's PageRank system and Backlinks.
Any idea how many backlinks it takes to really make a difference in Google Page Ranking system? Are there any "safe" reliable" companies to contract and have them build textual backlinks for you that won't get you penalized by google?

I don't think its the quantity of back links but more quality and how close it is to the actual subject of the website.
if you link a low rank automotive help site from a high rank html forum site it would not be looked at in the way you would want it. The link is totally of subject and has nothing to do with each other.
Just a thought i really do not even want to try to understand google, Whatever they have or are doing is working.

Page Rank & SEO - Google side stepping Page Rank
Good article on Google Page Rank
Seems it doesn't count like it used to anymore.
As a small Bay Area web design and Bay Area SEO company this is great news as it should be for all of the many small operations and small local businesses everywhere that have a website and trying to make decent search rankings.....

Great post and great thread. Thank you to everyone for sharing. Is google the only site with with a PR10? If so, seems like the whole process may be a bit skewed?

Agree with fellow posts. Gaining pageranks takes patience and hard work. Remember, SEO is long-term and continuous.

Agreed. It's a slow process to get your website to a decent PR. You need a good SEO web design but what's most important is quality links (links from high PR sites and/or links from sites in your niche market) to your website and it needs to be done over time, not all at once.
