Guest posting is sort of comparable to having a guest speaker at an event or maybe a special guest on a radio or TV program. This term is generally used on blogs where postings are from just the blog owner or a regular group of writers. The "guest" is not usually going to be a regular blog writer but usually just one or a few posts.
The trade-off of guest posting is that the blog gets new content and the guest post gets a bit of traffic from the blog & often a few links (from within the blog post) as well.
