Hi all
I came accross this forum in Soulwatcher's sig on another forum. I've used Linux for about 10 years on and off. Currently, I run several Linux servers on a small home network, one colocated server and one rented server. The rented server runs RHEL, the rest run Centos, but over the years, I've installed most of the popular Linux distributions at one point or another.
Hopefully, I can help out a few people here from time to time, and learn a few things along the way. |
Hi Coop, I am honored that a person of your experience joined our forum. I defiantly wouldn't mind another person helping out on the forums. What are you doing with all those servers?
Centos is also my distro of choice as well, I started learning Linux with Red Hat 9. And then I moved to Fedora and then to Centos. Unless something better comes out Centos will be my distro of choice for a long time to come. :) I really hope you enjoy our forums. I would love to have you as one of our regular members. We are now starting to get google searches on the forum. So hopefully activity will start picking up soon. Soulwatcher |
Happy to be here Soulwatcher,
forums have to start somewhere, and this seems like a great idea for one. I actually have a /29 at home (8 static IP's, 5 usable for servers etc.). Mostly, I have been interested in Linux for a long time now, and naturally ended up running it on servers at home (I never really got on with the Linux desktop for various reasons). On that network, I run a cpanel server for testing using an owned copy of cpanel. I have a seperate mail server running there, and a machine that I am playing with. My latest interest is figuring out how to use xen (http://www.xensource.com/), but I'm not having too much luck with it so far. I need a little more time to play. The second server is colocated in the UK, and currently runs a small domain registration business, several forums and a few small websites. However, I want some redundancy, so I recently took a part share in a server hosted at www.softlayer.com which I intend to use mainly for backups, secondary DNS etc. Three of us share the cost of that server and I basically do the admin work. That server runs RHEL 64, and the Interworx control panel, which is a little more limited than cpanel in some ways, but doesn't completely destroy your server like a cpanel install does (anyone who ever tried to remove cpanel will understand what I mean). Experience wise, I work as a programmer, mainly on Solaris based systems (the company refuses to use Linux). Part of that job includes helping to maintain a few Solaris boxes and two older DGUX boxes (DGUX is an old and obscure version of Unix). |
Indeed nice to see experienced people joining a forum. Your input will be great to hear. I know a couple people who have great knowledge of server setup, but can't get them to join any forums. They just to busy.
Welcome to the forums. Look forward to seeing you around. |
