Ubuntu

I have been thinking of taking the plunge and installing Linux on my PC (duel boot with Windows XP) and I've been doing some research and found out about the Ubuntu project. Their Linux system seems to very good, can anyone recommend it and would it be good for a beginner?

Personally I have just recently heard about Ubuntu. I have researched it, and it seems like a good OS. It seems to have good support. If you decide to do a dual boot with Ubuntu. Could you report back to us and let us know how it goes?

Yea, no problem I will try and report back. Though it might be a while, I need to pluck up some courage to take the plunge :p .

Have you considered starting with http://www.knoppix.org/. Basicly, it is a live CD, so you can just setup your PC to boot from CD, insert it in the drive, and your done. It does run somewhat slower than a proper install, especially during first boot. But it's a good way of finding your feet before doing a full install.

It also makes a great recovery disk for when you get locked out of the server.

Iam using Kubuntu right now. Its really nice and u can do almost everything graphically and the installer is also really good. Iam just a disapointed in the driver support for my ATI videocard. Iam still having problems figuring out how to play games
