What is your Operating System of choice?

I'm still stuck in the dark ages and run Windows 2000 Pro/Redhat 9 religiously on all my work machines, though have to put up with XP Professional at home.

I know it's outdated and I should really upgrade, but I've never really got on with XP and am yet to ever have a serious problem with the platforms I use, so is there any need to yet?

What do the next versions of Windows have in store? Is it worth upgrading to take advantage of 64 Bit software?

Your thoughts are appreciated.

I'm using XP Home SP2 on my PC. It works fine, so far so good. I have tried Linux but it's just for fun. Vista - next version of Windows, I would touch it. Let wait for the release of SP, thought it might be buggy.

I am using Window XP Service Pack2, there is no other solution for me. I also dont know how to operate Linux systems thats why I have sticked with XP.

I dual boot my laptop - windows XP & Linus (Ubuntu). I have run Mandrake, Red Hat, and Fedora Core...trying Ubuntu out for a change.

I use WinXP Pro SP2 and I've never had a problem with it. I also use Macs and Linux-PCs on a regular basis. The hype from all sides of that arguement is just crazy. Left unmaintained, any machine will crash or have problems, ditto if you have a person who's new to computers using them.

Windows just gets more problems because it has the higher profile.

I am using Windows XP SP2 on my home PC. It works fine and I think it is the best choice, however, I prefer Linux Based Operating Systems on servers ( hosting sites ).

I dual boot my PC with XP Pro SP 2 and Ubuntu Linux. Linux is pretty cool, but I use it for more recreational stuff, while XP is for more school-related stuff. XP gets a lot more use from me, though.

I used Windows Seven a few days ago, but then bought a 1 terabyte harddisk and installed Windows XP on it. Can't wait for the official release of WSeven on the 22th of October.

I use Windows XP for my desktop workstation and Linux (CentOS) on my webservers. I don't know much about Windows 7, but from what I've read it seems that quite a few people are impressed with it.

UnDeRoAtH 08-22-2009 07:25 AM

I am using Windows XP professional

I am using Windows XP professional but not totally satisfied with the security issues and it is very vulnerable to spywares & viruses. I am thinking of switching to RedHat Linux.

I use Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit SP1, but I am going to be upgrading soon to Windows 7 the day it comes out... there's been a lot of talk about Windows 7, and a lot of people are saying it shouldn't be considered as a whole new operating system, because its basically just an upgrade to Windows Vista. I just got my own computer, so I haven't been able to explore much of Vista, and I'll be upgrading to Windows 7 pretty soon. I used Windows 95, 98, 2000, and XP SP2 most of my life, and I loved XP (if you get past the minor annoyances). I haven't tried Mac computers, but I really want to get one (I love trying new things), and see how it is. Has anyone used both Windows and Mac? If so, which operating system was better in your opinion?

If I could find drivers for windows 2000 and my video card, I would still be using WIN2K - its probably the best OS microsoft ever made.

After windows 2000, its XP professional.

But I liked the way windows 95 would run on 32 megs of memory. I just wish vista did the same thing.

I used to work for an airline and the computer system we used was windows based and I hated it, but my mac is a dream. :)

Actually you can not compare Windows to Mac, or Linux. Windows is in a world all of there own. Very prone to virus and spyware you have to stay on top of it.

Right now I am using Windows Vista on my laptop and Windows XP on my desktop, I have no choice because this OS comes with the unit when we bought it. If give a change to experiment I want to install Linux operating system

oldgamesware 04-29-2010 01:59 AM

I used Windows XP sp2. They say that Windows 7 is good. I don't know, I haven't tried it though.

Albiem 08-27-2010 03:55 AM

alexgw 10-04-2010 06:09 AM

I would say Windows 7 is the way to go. For me, in photography, I do prefer Mac OS.

dvdreplication 11-12-2010 05:22 AM

I am using window XP professional with service pack 3 because its work fine and more reliable to other XP editions.

R@ZoR 11-12-2010 02:38 PM

Windows 7 - FTW ! ! !

Although it was not out when this post was started...LOL !

jack jastin 03-10-2011 10:30 PM

Linux based operating system is quite compatible but problem is that it doesn't give you a complete operating territory. In that respect, windowsXP is preferable.
