Best 1st Person Shooter

What do you think is the best 1st Peron Shooter of all time and why?
I would have to say that I think Half-Life was the best 1st Person Shooter ever. I think it was the best becasue for the time it came out it had awsome gameplay and graphics it still has one of the best stories to today.

DOOM 3, I rarely play those types of games, but Doom really caught my attention, even thought my computer was having problem running it, the graphics were simply amazing.

Well, Halo is a well-balanced game that a lot of my friends play. Thus, I play it a lot.

I'm a fan of Americas Army.

I would have to agree with ebittner

Half life was one of the best games I had every played
And there were so many mods that I was playing it for years.

It really amazes me that it was based on a highly modified quake 2 engine

Counter-Strike: Source :) Since it is based off the HL:2 engine which is amaaazing.

I'd probably say that either Medal of Honor: Rising Sun or the Call of Duty series are the best console FPS shooters around. I don't really play PC games so I wouldn't know about that. For handhelds I'd have to say Metroid Prime for the DS.

I would say Half Life 1 too. It was the game that revolutionalized the FPS genre. It had engaging gameplay and an awesome storyline.

I really enjoyed Command And Conquer: Generals, but my favourite shooter at the moment is Battlefield 2. They've gone a bit overboard on the expansions, but its still fun :)

For this voting I will go with Call of Duty. I played SWAT 3 a long time ago and I think it was also a 1st person shooting game, that is also fine. Its latest version SWAT 4 is also released and I am going to take a look at it.

bigg 05-24-2006 08:49 AM

swat is a good tactical game, which is not FPS, just like full spectrum warrior, where you play the commander..leading the team.

Doom I, the Ultimate Doom and the Final Doom have to be the best FPSs ever made.

After that its Half-Life 1.

Dom. 09-06-2009 10:53 AM

I play CounterStrike:Source the most. Best game I've ever played.

CS:S is a good game, but its not great. There is no real single player side, and there is no story plot.

Its not like Doom, Half-Life, or Left 4 Dead where there is a story behind the game. Having a story plot helps pull the player into the game and creates an alternate universe.

iMP 09-10-2009 12:18 AM

I'd say Half Life 2, hands down.

Look at it today, it's still amongst the best graphics and IMO the best storyline.

Dom. 09-11-2009 12:27 PM

I only play CS:S on the PC, I have an XBOX 360 in which I like the CoD games. ;)

Pretty sure alot of people love TF2 on PC, it's a fantastic game also.

This is probably the right answer. I haven't got tired of playing this game. AVP was pretty good back in the day.
