MP3 Players
Alright, the last thing I posted before the GC boards went down was about MP3 players. I want to buy one but I don't know what "size" to get. What size do ya'll have? 125mb, 256mb, 516mb, 1G, 2G, 4G, 5G, 30G, 60G????
Also, I'm leaning towards a Sony or Samsung but am willing to consider iPod. Any pros/cons to not getting an iPod? |
I have a pink iPod. So far it has worked great.

I got a 6 GB iPod mini....
My advice? If you can afford it, buy the size higher then the one you think you need...for the simple fact is, it gets annoying when you have to delete sogns off your mp3 player to go ahead and add new stuff. I wish I spent the extra $50 to get the 20 GB that was out then. |
I got a 20GB for Christmas and I put basically every CD I have and every song I've ever downloaded onto it, and I still have 13GB left on it.

I have a 512Mb Creative Zen Nano. It definitely is not big enough. I just use it as a "temporary" MP3 player until I can get my Ipod. I wanted to get one before I left to go to Baltimore on a job interview, and this was the only thing that they sold in the school bookstore. But I totally agree with ruaalien2 that you should get a bigger one that you need because I always have to delete stuff off mine and I hate it.

The megabites(MB) or gigabites(GB) is mostly saying how much you can store in the MP3 player. The more MB or GB the more you can store in it. I have an Ipod Shuffle and it only stores about 130 songs (thats good enough for me....then again I only got it for $70 at wal-mart) and my sister has and Ipod (not sure which one) and stores about 200 songs. If you want to have a lot of songs I would suggest you go with one on the higher GB MP3s you can afford. |
I'm confused about how much they really store though. I've heard that 1G will max out between 250 and 600 songs. That's a pretty big difference. I think I could deal with 600 songs but 250 sounds like too little. :(

the best way to figure out how many you need is to check the size of your music folder, it should say how many MBs you have
|
I got an iPod a couple of months ago, the 60GB one and I love it. It is WAY more than I need but was only about $100 more than the 30GB so I upgraded. I'm hoping to put audiobooks on it for travelling.

I have a Creative Muvo 256 mb player, and I absolutely love it! It fits tons of music (mine came with a software that allows you to change the size of the mp3s, and I can get like 4+ hours on my player, and still have plenty of space left). Plus, it's really easy to use, and I drop it all the time and the screen doesn't even have a scratch!

My pink 6GB iPod mini has worked pretty well. I have a weird problem with the screen hanging for a second when I punch something or try to change the volume, but it's no big deal and probably a result of me stuffing it with as much music as possible. I have to go back and delete stuff from time to time, but by the time I get around to get new music on there, there's usually something that I've gotten tired of on there that I can part with. It has slightly over 1,500 songs on it right now and that works pretty well for me.
I did have to get different headphones, though. For some reason, my stupid ears are big, but the ear-hole isn't! Grr. |

It depends on the format of your files. They can be compressed to make them smaller and more would fit. Gerernally if you keep the regular format it will be about 250-300 songs for a 1G |

I don't like the ones that go over your ears. I feel like you don't hear as well with them and I always get paranoid that people sitting around me are going to hear my music and get annoyed.

http://images.bestbuy.com/BestBuy_US...7691312_sa.jpg I have this type of headphones on my RCA lyra. I'm pretty sure that other people can't hear my music, but then again, I don't listen to my music with the volume cranked all the way up. I tried my friend's IPod before and the ear buds really hurt my ears and it felt like the music was so loud since it was right in my ear. As far as my MP3 player, I don't really use it very much because it only holds about 20-30 songs without a memory card. It holds a lot more with a memory card, but I've just been too lazy to go out and buy one. |
i have a 4G mini.
it was GREAT at first, but now i have to be selective about what to add because i've run out of space. If they would make the big ones in cute colors, i'd upgrade. until then i'll just have to suck it up. I'd definitely say stick with ipod no matter what you chose, if you ever need to call/email tech support they are FANTASTIC. Also, most people i've talked to who (unfortunately) needed to return or exchange stuff were very pleased with the service. |
