What is bind? I use Zoneedit.com

Zone Edit is a free DNS service for your server. Well the first 5 domains are free. It works really well for people trying to run a home webserver, from a dynamic ip. I have bind setup on my server but I don't use it. Instead I use DNS made easy. www.dnsmadeeasy.com This way if something happened to my server my website could be redirected to another server with in minutes.

But you have to have a Static IP to run your own DNS right?

Soulwatcher 03-06-2006 07:33 AM

Yes, my server has 5 IP addresses. I just choose to let someone else host the DNS for the server. With DNS made easy I have 5 DNS servers instead of just 1 DNS server on the server its self.

bind is a great DNS Server for Linux (and windows).

We use it on our servers.

I have had godaddy for a while and I have not had issues with either the DNS or their hosting.

I play Socom 2 and 3 online. I have noticed they used DNS. What is DNS limited too? By that I mean, you guys are talking about domains and hosting, so can it host gaming as well?

You could get a domain so people could just type in that .com to connect to the game server instead of typing the IP address.
